Ewende Micro Silica Powder (Silica Fume) has the following applications in the plastics industry:
1. As filler:
– Enhancement of mechanical properties: added to polyethylene (PE), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polypropylene (PP) and other plastics, can improve the tensile strength, bending strength, hardness and other mechanical properties of plastics. For example, in the production of some plastic pipes and plastic plates with high requirements for strength, adding an appropriate amount of micro silica powder can make the products better withstand external pressure and impact.
– Improvement of dimensional stability: the filling of micro silica powder can reduce the shrinkage of plastics, reduce the size of the product in the molding process, improve the dimensional stability of the product. This is very important for the manufacture of precision plastic parts, such as electronic equipment shells, automotive parts and so on.
– Improve heat resistance: micro-silica powder has high thermal stability, can to a certain extent improve the heat resistance of plastics, so that it can still maintain good performance in high temperature environment. For example, in some plastic containers, electrical appliance shells and other products that require high temperature resistance, the addition of micro silica powder can meet the requirements of the use of the product.
2. As reinforcing agent:
– Increase impact resistance: it can be uniformly dispersed in the plastic matrix, forming a net-like structure, when the plastic is impacted, it can absorb and disperse energy, thus improving the impact resistance of the plastic. For example, in some plastic helmets, plastic guardrails and other products, the use of micro silica powder as a reinforcing agent can improve the safety performance of the product.
– Improvement of wear resistance: micro-silica powder has high hardness, which can be added to plastics to increase the wear resistance of plastics and prolong the service life of products. For example, in plastic gears, plastic bearings and other parts with frequent friction, adding micro silica powder can improve their wear resistance.
3. Improve processing performance:
– Improvement of fluidity: the spherical particle form and smaller particle size of micro silica powder can reduce the melt viscosity of plastics, improve the fluidity of plastics, make plastics easier to mold during processing, reduce processing difficulties and energy consumption. For example, in the plastic injection molding process, adding the right amount of micro silica powder can make the plastic melt easier to fill the mold cavity, improve production efficiency and product quality.
– Prevent air bubbles: micro silica powder can adsorb water and gas in the plastic, reduce the generation of air bubbles in the molding process, and improve the product’s density and appearance quality.
4. Reduce cost:
To a certain extent, it can replace some of the higher-priced plastic raw materials, such as certain additives in engineering plastics, thus reducing the production cost of plastic products, while still maintaining better performance.
